Blogging Guidelines

Publishing a blog post, or commenting on someone else’s post,  makes your writing visible to audiences around the world. It’s important that you take the time to think carefully about what you write and always follow these guidelines.

Student Guidelines

BE SAFE:

  • Never identify yourself – or anyone else with a family name, birthdate, address, email address or phone number.
  • Do not relate personal information about yourself or others.
  • All posts and comments will be approved by Mrs RP before becoming publicly visible.

BE RESPECTFUL

  • Be thoughtful in choosing what to write. Ask yourself if your post might be offensive or hurtful to someone.
  • Use your own words.  If you want to use someone else’s words, acknowledge that you’ve done so.
  • Be considerate of others. Your comments should demonstrate that you have read the blog post/comment and thought about what you are saying in response.
  • You will not agree with every comment on your blog, and that’s OK. Be open to respectfully discussing differences in opinion.

BE LITERATE

  • If your writing is full of spelling and grammar errors, or has no punctuation, your readers will have trouble understanding your message. Check these things before you publish, or ask for help.
  • Abbreviations and text talk should be saved for texting and social media.

Parent Guidelines

  • Parents are encouraged to comment (positively) on posts. Please ask questions, add information, share your own experiences.
  • Parents are also asked to identify themselves using their first name only so as not to publicly identify their child e.g. Mary – William’s mother rather than Mary Smith – William’s mother.
